How Termidor Works

Termidor is the most extensively tested and proven termiticide on the market today. It was the first of a new type of termiticide that works in an entirely different way from older products like Chlordane and Chlorpyrifos (Dursban).

Termidor is a slow-acting, non-repellent termiticide. Rather than forming a repellent "chemical barrier" to discourage termites from entering your home, Termidor is invisible to termites. They can't see it, taste it, or smell it; so they freely travel right through it while foraging, and pick it up on their bodies in the process.

Termite are highly social insects who are constantly communicating with each other, grooming with each other, and feeding each other. In short, they spend a lot of time touching each other. Termidor takes advantage of this natural termite behavior.

Through a process known as trophylaxis, termites who have directly contacted Termidor-treated soil spread the termiticide to other members of the colony through their ordinary feeding, grooming, and communication activities. In other words, the termites themselves carry the chemical into the nest, where it kills the entire colony.

How Effective is Termidor?

For more than a decade, soil tests conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service have found Termidor to be incomparably effective in eliminating termites, at every test location, and at every labeled concentration. More importantly, however, more than 2.6 million actual homes have been treated with Termidor since 2000, making it the nation's leading termite control product.

Termidor and the Environment

Termidor is applied at a very low chemical concentration and has no odor. In addition, unlike many other termiticide products, Termidor can only be applied by licensed Pest Control Operators who have completed additional, specialized training in the proper handling, use, and application of the product.
