Termite Control using the Advance Termite Baiting System
Termite baiting is a very useful treatment option when soil conditions or the presence of wells or cisterns in the area to be treated make liquid treatments inadvisable, or when drilling through flooring or other structural obstacles would be difficult or impossible. Termite bait systems are also popular with customers who simply prefer the baiting approach to liquid treatment. This is largely a matter of personal preference because modern non-repellent liquid treatments like Termidor are also applied in very low dosages. Still, some consumers consider baiting systems to be a more environmentally friendly, "green" termite solution.
How does Termite Baiting Work? The Advance Termite Baiting System is installed in the soil. High-density plastic stations are placed around the home or other structure to be protected. (When necessary, the stations may also be installed through concrete, but usually this isn't required.) Once the stations are installed, a cellulose bait is placed in each station. Cellulose is the component in wood that gives it structural rigidity. It's also what termites eat. The stations are periodically inspected by a specially trained technician, and when termite activity is detected, the cellulose bait is replaced with a cartridge containing a matrix of cellulose and a slow acting termiticide. But unlike Sentricon, the bottom section (TMB) inside the station is undisturbed, thereby reducing the chance of disturbing the termites and chasing them away. The termites continue to feed on the bait matrix and spread the termiticide throughout the colony. Over the course of time, the colony is eliminated. When that happens, the bait matrix is replaced with the plain cellulose bait, and the stations continue to be monitored for new termite activity.
